In school we had to choose a rocky shore animal and research about it. I wanted to show my research about a Hermit crab. Exoskelaton A hermit crab doesn't have bones so it has to have an outer shell called an exsoskelaton. A hermit crabs exsoskelaton molts and grows every few months. Habitat A Hermit Crab is found commonly at a low tide at a rocky shorebecause it has heaps of food and shelter. A Hermit crab canbreed and mate here and has many friends and shells. Eggs A hermit crabs needs to be at the ocean to breed therefore if a hermit crab is held in capivity it cannot breed. Shells When a Hermit Crab is to big for its shell it has to changeit. It uses empty snail and whelk shells because it doen't grow them. Legs A hermit crab has five pairs if legs. One pair for keeping the shell on tight, three pairs for walking and the third pair grow into claws. If there legs are falling of it is because they are really stressed. Life Cycle A hermit crabs starts a an egg. Then it halfs and something like a small slug with legs come out. Then after a few hours it needs to change their shell and grows an exsoskelaton. After a few days it gets its adult legs and it gets another new shell and it is an adult.
